Welcome to The Golden Standard

After years away from blogging, I'm returning to something I've always loved. Consider this your invitation into the next chapter.

When I was younger, I had a blog called Growing Up Golden.

Back then, writing was simply an extension of who I was. I documented life, shared little discoveries and hacks I stumbled upon, and somehow managed to turn ordinary experiences into long stories. Looking back, it really shouldn't surprise anyone that I've ended up here again.

I've always been long-winded by nature. I'm the person who sends paragraphs instead of texts, tells stories with unnecessary but somehow important details, and has never once been accused of keeping an Instagram caption short and sweet. She is who she is, folks.

Writing has always felt natural to me.

As the years passed, life became fuller. Careers evolved, relationships deepened, and there were moves, weddings, businesses, travels, and countless responsibilities that naturally took priority. Growing Up Golden quietly faded into the background, but my love for writing never really disappeared.

The desire was always there. The bandwidth simply wasn't.

And I think that's true for so many creative projects. Sometimes they aren't abandoned. They're simply waiting patiently for the right season.

After stepping away from podcasting for a bit, I realized I still had plenty to say and nowhere to put it. Daniel and I had settled into our new life in Santa Barbara. We had traveled, rested, and finally reached a point where life felt a little less chaotic. For the first time in a long time, inspiration started knocking again.

The Golden Standard actually existed long before this website did. It lived in notebooks, voice notes, conversations, and countless ideas saved for "someday."

Eventually, someday arrived.

People often ask me where the name came from, and the truth is that it has nothing to do with perfection. Quite the opposite, actually.

The Golden Standard is simply my own personal standard for living. Not one I achieve every day, but one I aspire to. It's choosing thoughtfulness over rushing, connection over perfection, and meaning over appearances. It's remembering that life doesn't have to be extraordinary to be beautiful and making room for the people, experiences, and little rituals that make life feel rich.

Another part of that standard, and one I've become increasingly protective of over the years, is authenticity.

I've never been particularly good at doing things because everyone else is doing them. In fact, some of the more obviously forced and performative parts of modern life give me the heebie-jeebies. You know the feeling. The trends that feel manufactured. The advice that sounds copied and pasted. The pressure to optimize every second of your life. The endless pursuit of appearances over substance. Major ick.

I've learned that the things I enjoy most, and the things that seem to resonate most with others, are the ones that happen organically. The friendships that develop naturally. The traditions that evolve over time. The recommendations that come from genuine enthusiasm. The creative projects that arrive when inspiration and bandwidth finally meet.

I believe the best things in life are rarely forced.

They're cultivated.

If you've spent any time with me in real life, you also know that I love sharing things. A hotel I adored. A product worth buying. A lesson I learned the hard way. A resource that made life easier. I've never understood gatekeeping because information has always felt like a form of generosity to me.

This little corner of the internet feels like the perfect place to collect and share the things that have added value to my own life.

Some articles may be about travel. Others may revolve around relationships, wellness, weddings, home, friendship, or simply something I've been thinking about lately. Like life itself, this space will evolve, and I think that's part of the beauty.

There won't be a rigid content calendar around here. Some seasons may be full of ideas and stories, while others may be quieter. I've never been interested in creating for the sake of creating. I'd much rather share something because I'm genuinely excited about it than because a schedule told me I should.

Authenticity may not always be the fastest path, but I believe it's the most sustainable one.

More than anything, I hope you leave here feeling supported. I hope you discover something useful. I hope you feel like someone is looking out for you. And I hope that every now and then, something you read here makes your own life feel a little easier, a little more beautiful, and a little more thoughtful.

Because that's really what The Golden Standard has always been about.

The Golden Standard

Life doesn't have to be perfect to be meaningful.

The goal isn't to do everything, have everything, or get everything right. It's simply to create more room for what matters most and to share what we learn along the way.

Save This For Later

• Creativity often returns when the timing is right.

• Life is lived in seasons.

• Recommendations are meant to be shared.

• Thoughtfulness is a form of generosity.

• Authenticity will always outlast performance.

• Beautiful doesn't have to mean perfect.

With love,

Jen
